AMV Contest Screening

AMVs or Anime Music Videos are an integral part of any convention so come check out those screening at this con and vote for your favorite ones or even better submit your own to compete!

AMV Contest Overview

We will have three categories of entrants:
~Comedy/Upbeat
~Drama/Romance
~Action

Videos will be judged by the audience for the best of each category and best overall. Winners will be announced at the end of the day and will receive prizes (anime merch, DVD, vendor and artists donations). If you are not physically there, prizes will be sent via mail.

How to Submit a Video

We will be doing submissions through rapidshare.com, so upload the file onto the site. Then on the next page, scroll down and use "send download link via e-mail" option to send your video to amv.otakufest@gmail.com!

Make sure to include the following information in the "short message" box:

Video Source Used (if more than 3 list as "Various")
Song Title (if more than 2 list as "Various")
Music Artist (if more than 2 list as "Various")
Name/Group Name
Email address
Physical mailing address
Registered/Attending the convention?
Category to compete in.

(If we feel your video fits into a catagory other than the one you choose, will we notify you, but we withhold the right to move your video into a more fitting catagory)

NOTE: Please make sure to check to approved submission formats prior to sending.
NOTE 2.0: To make sure the e-mail goes through, you should use your own e-mail as a second file recipent.

Below are file types in order of preference.

.mpeg
.avi
.wma

If you are unable to provide one of the below formats, our AMV coordinator will be willing to work with you to see what we can do to accommodate you.

Contest Rules

  1. There is a time limit of 6 minutes on videos and a minimum of 30 seconds. Anything outside of time range may be accepted at the AMV coordinators discretion
  2. You may make a maximum of 3 submissions per person/collective group of editors, but no more than 1 of these submissions will be shown in the AMV contest.
  3. The majority of the AMV must contain Japanese anime or Japanese video game related media. Anything that is not in one of the two prior categories maybe used only if it takes up less then roughly half the video. If you have any questions about what is acceptable for the majority of your video, please feel free to contact our AMV coordinator at amv.otakufest@gmail.com with subject: question.
    Note: Manga and other anime related but not directly anime (art, toys, models) can be incorporated into a video and accepted on a case by case basis. 
  4. CHS Otaku Fest is an all ages event and held at a public high school, thus all video played should have a rating no higher than mild PG-13. This means no extreme violence, no foul language in the song used, no overt sexual situations. If you have any questions about what is considered appropriate please contact our AMV coordinator at amv.otakufest@gmail.com with subject: question.
  5. The AMV should not contain subtitles UNLESS they are they were created by the maker of the AMV for the purpose of the video.
  6. The AMV should not contain any watermarks on the video (i.e. Divx symbol, tv logos in the corner, etc.)
  7. You do not have to be an attendee at CHS Otaku Fest to submit an AMV, but it is advised.
  8. Judging will be based on audience ballots for category and overall favorite.
  9. Video entries can be of any age as long as it has not debuted at an anime convention prior to November 2008 and has not won an award at an anime convention prior to the date of submission. Please be advised that we want a chance for new videos to have a spot on the contest list and to win. Obviously if your video debuts at several conventions within a short timespan and wins, your video will not be excluded from competition.
  10. If the number of submission exceeds the number of available time slots, cuts will be made based attributes such as technical aspects, effectiveness of video, and overall quality.  Even if your video does not compete it will still be shown during non-competing AMV screening. 

Other than the limited exceptions above, any video that does not follow the guidelines above and rules below WILL BE DISQUALIFIED AND NOT BE ENTERED INTO THE CONTEST. All judging methods and decisions are final.

Also Please Note:
CHS Otaku Fest AMV Department and Administration Staff reserves the right to prohibit from convention viewing any video submission entered into the contest for any reason. All submissions become the property of CHS Otaku Fest and/or its assigns, and will not be returned to the submitter -- Please do not send in your only copy of your video submission.
