Hi! I'm feyuca and I was curious...

What size are art prints, generally, and how much do people charge for them?

Are prints usually on cardstock paper? (And does anyone know any good places for making prints? )

Thanks in advance!

Well, prints can be on either kind of paper, but they're usually lamenated. Usually people sell 3x5 or 8x11 prints. Sometimes bigger than that.

Lamenating...I never thought about doing that, haha.

Do you know if original art sells, or are fan arts more popular?

Fanart are generally more popular, but original art can sell well too. I'd say do most of your art should be geared toward the buyers, but it's really up to you.

No problem! I've been to a few artist alleys, and have participated in one small one, so I at least have a little experience to help others out.

There's a whole variety of print sizes including 3x5, 8x10, 11x17 (poster size). I've noticed that poster size prints sell well, but I guess it depends on the artist.

Some of the pricing I've seen are:

3x5 - $2-5

8X10 - $8-10

11x17 or larger - $15+

Yeah, like Tsukiyo said, prints can be on any kind of paper. But most of the time you get it printed on photo paper -- either glossy or matte. (I prefer matte.) I haven't found any nice and cheap places to print, but Sam's Club and Costco have Fujifilm printers that offer 1-hour printing on matte.

As for commissions it's all up to you. Some artists I've met offer quick market sketches and pencil sketches for $10 and less while others offer more typical commissions, which generally cost more. (Full color commissions costing more than B&W...)

I dunno if you feel like reading through this whole thing, but there's some useful information in this guide here. I'm also selling for the first time, and I think the guide is great!

Gah I wrote too much.... x_x;;;

This guide is great! I've only sold art one time, so I'm still a beginner at this, so this will help out a lot!!!   O_O

Mmm... I would refer to Hans Tseng's (mangaka that does online manga Directions of Destiny) pricing system for this.

8 x 11" $4

5 x 7" (postcard) $7

11 x 17" (poster) $12

This system may work well enough for some people.  Most Fedex Kinkos outlets can set you up for all these sizes.  As for the paper, the cardstock may be better for postcard size.  The others just use higher grade semi gloss paper.  Hope that helps.
